NEWS: Bell, Goosen Highlight 2019 Hall of Fame Class

The group of Peggy Kirk Bell, Retief Goosen, Jan Stephenson, Billy Payne and Dennis Walters will be enshrined in the World Golf Hall of Fame next June, it was announced Wednesday. The ceremony will take place the Monday prior to the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

Bell, who died in 2016 at 95, won the 1949 Titleholders Championship and was a charter member of the LPGA who went on to become a noted instructor and women’s golf proponent. The longtime owner of Pine Needles Resort in Southern Pines, N.C., Bell was selected in the lifetime achievement category. She previously received the USGA’s Bob Jones Award in 1990 and the PGA of America’s First Lady of Golf Award in 2007.

Goosen, a 49-year-old South African, won 33 worldwide titles, including two U.S. Opens. He also led the European Tour Order of Merit twice and played in six consecutive Presidents Cups. He was selected in the male competitor category
