QUICK TAKE: After Ryder Cup Captaincy, Furyk Enjoys Return To Competition

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MEXICO | After spending the last year and a half thinking about managing the game of others, Jim Furyk is back to thinking about his own.

The U.S. Ryder Cup captain didn’t guide his team to a victory in Paris for the Ryder Cup, but he’s found a nice refuge in Mexico for the Mayakoba Golf Classic. The El Camaleon Golf Course is fairly short and narrow, a perfect combination for Furyk to reach 13-under through the first three rounds on the strength of a third-round 5-under 66 that featured four consecutive birdies on Nos. 5-8.

“It’s kind of fun to getting back to playing again,” Furyk said. “There were a lot of weeks where I didn’t think about golf for me that much, so it’s refreshing to get back out here.”
