First Look: PING BLUEPRINT “Prototype” Irons

Loius Oosthuizen just posted pics of what we can only guess is an upcoming PING iBlade replacement to his Instagram account. Named, at least for now, Blueprint, the new irons appears to leverage the same construction as the current G700 and i500 irons. It’s worth noting, they also share a similar aesthetic, which is part of a continuing trend at PING towards cleaner, more modern design.

The custom tuning port visible in the toe suggests hollow body construction, albeit it a compact, traditional-ish blade shape. That hints at an iron that should offer a bit more forgiveness than your typical muscleback. The heads are stamped Forged, but it remains to be seen if the entire body is forged, or just the face.

Whether truly prototype or not, the irons appear to be plenty far along in the design process. PING traditionally releases product mid-summer and around the time of the PGA Show. iBlade is within its replacement window, so I expect we’ll hear more about these in January.

Have Your Say

What do you think of the new design? Is this a blade you’d consider putting in your bag?
